AnLedger User Guide

A practical overview of the main AnLedger concepts and workflows.

Introduction

AnLedger is a full-featured personal and household finance application designed to work offline. It supports multiple Books, accounts, currencies, hierarchical categories, classifications, budgets, recurring items, split transactions, reports, widgets, backups, and common import/export formats.

Data is organized into Books. A Book can represent a household ledger, personal finances, a small business record, or any other separate financial domain.

Getting Started

On first launch, AnLedger guides you through creating or restoring a Book. After a Book is open, the main screen shows the account list.

Common actions are available from the top bar, navigation drawer, overflow menu, or long-press menus.

Accounts

Accounts represent real-world financial accounts such as checking, savings, cash, credit cards, loans, assets, and liabilities.

To add an account, use the plus button or account menu. Enter the account name, type, financial institution if applicable, account number or abbreviation if desired, starting balance, currency, and optional notes.

Transfers between accounts are created as linked transactions so both sides of the transfer remain connected.

Transactions

Transactions can be added from the account list, an account transaction view, widgets, or recurring items.

Typical fields include account, date, amount, payee, category, project/classification, notes, transaction number, and status.

Split transactions allow a single transaction to be divided into multiple lines. Long-press a transaction for additional actions such as editing, deleting, duplicating, marking, flagging for follow-up, or making it recurring.

Budgets

Budgets can be created for categories or classifications over standard or custom periods.

Budget screens and widgets compare actual spending or income against budget targets.

Recurring Bills and Deposits

Recurring items can be used for repeating bills, deposits, transfers, and scheduled reminders.

When a recurring item is due or overdue, AnLedger can show it in the recurring list, account transaction views, widgets, and notifications depending on your settings.

Reports

Reports help review balances, spending, income, payees, categories, budgets, net worth, and transactions over selected date ranges.

Most reports include settings for date range, grouping, accounts, payees, categories, projects, status, and display direction.

Backup, Restore, Import, and Export

Use Backup to create an AnLedger backup file and keep copies in secure locations you control.

Use Restore to load a backup into a Book or move data to a new device.

Import supports common personal-finance file formats such as QIF, OFX/QFX/OFS, and CSV. Export can produce files for spreadsheets, recordkeeping, tax preparation, or transfer to other software.

Settings and Widgets

Settings include display theme, currency options, backup schedule, password protection, import/export preferences, report settings, calendar/reminder options, and widget configuration.

Widgets can show quick transaction entry, account balances, upcoming bills and deposits, reports, or budget progress depending on the widget selected and configured.
